Alexandrina Results for 4 December 2019
There was some arm twisting required to sell the last 5 raffle tickets but there was not a lot of competition in it.
We had six and a half tables and played a Mitchell Bystand with Rover pair. The Director was uncomfortable with the 4 board N-S sit out and will probably stick to a seven table Hesitation Mitchell in the future.
It was a good day for Norma. She deserves it.

Alexandrina Results for 6 November 2019
This session starts the Semi-Annual Competition for Our Founders Green Velvet Table Cover. The Cover is currently held by Garry and Pieter so we have not seen it for six months. In looking back through the blog to see just how interesting it is beyond the results, I have discovered that the May Founders GVC results were not posted so they appear close the end of this week's entry.
All sessions this month will be for red Masterpoints. Players need red and/or gold Masterpoints for rank promotions beyond Regional. For example Pat (with 28.82 red points) and John (29.72) both rank at State but Norman with more Masterpoints ranks at Regional with 16.05 red points. For State rank a player needs 50 total Masterpoints of which at least 25 are red.

This blog serves the purpose of a permanent easily accessible record of what happens in the ACBC and also anything the Blogger does that impinges on ACBC. These impinging personal things usually appear here at the end. Very few people even casually look at the blog (Blogspot bloggers are shown the number of sightings and commenters in their interface) or ever get to the bottom of an entry. Now, given that since my retirement from actual income generating work during the GFC, Contract Bridge has become the thing that satisfies my need to feel like I'm relevant and it will probably keep going as long as I do.

Alexandrina Results for 30 October 2019
This day we had five and a half tables and when this happens we use a table movement we call "6T 10R Switching Rover for Five and a Half Tables (10 Rnds of 3 Brds)". The Rover Pair first bumps NS for three boards and then switches and bumps EW at the same table for three boards. Meanwhile, the rest of the room plays a six board round. Everyone except the Rover Pair has a 3 board sit-out.

The Scorer was on a road trip to avoid any sort of fuss occurring over a particular event (not successfully). He left with a gross and burgeoning sore on his bottom lip, quickly developed a pinched nerve in his back and set his knees complaining about too much walking in the wrong shoes. So after adding two more art gallery/museums to a long list of closed venues to which he has traveled (see pic below and cf with LeicesterG's other blog), he elected to toss in the towel. He returned to his lair did nothing for the best part of a week other than watch sport on television and read his book.

Alexandrina Results for 14 August 2019
This day we had five and a half tables and for the first time we used a Switch Rover 5 Rounds of 6 Boards movement. In this the Rover pair starts by bumping Table 1 N-S for the first 3 boards then switches to E-W and plays the next 3 boards against N-S. Then, for the next round, skips a table and repeats and so on ending up at Table 4 for the final round. If the session is complete the the rover pair play 30 boards and everyone else plays 27 boards.
But here's the rub: 6 boards at 7 minutes gives us a 42 minute round and on this particular dark and stormy late afternoon the director wanted people (some with 50km country road drives) on their way by 4:30. So he cut the last round. Thus, 3 pairs played 24 boards and 8 pairs played 21 boards.
The Scorer went home (a 2 minute drive with street lighting) believing his scoring program would let him enter anything he wanted. But no ... the scoring program would not allow a switch from N-S to E-W in the middle of a round. So Scorer handballed the scoring to the movement perpetrators and went to bed. The perpetrators (we do thank them for introducing the movement to us) quickly knocked out the result and emailed it back to the Scorer who subsequently used it to verify his own work.
The next morning Scorer decides to call it a Switch Rover 10 Rounds of 3 Boards movement. The scoring program is happy because the switch happens between rounds and the Director is happy because he can now cut the 10th round and 9 pairs will have played 24 boards (with a 3 board sitout) and 2 pairs will have played 27 boards (rover pair and E-W starting at Table 5) and everyone can get home in daylight. Might have to have a 10 minute afternoon tea.
So the upshot is: you may expect this movement to be used again for a half table short of six movement to avoid a 4 board sit out. It also presents the opportunity for seeded NS pairs to play against other seeded NS pairs.

For the pedants out there that was rhetoric.
