Alexandrina's Ninth Birthday Celebration 0n 16 December 2020
Alexandrina Contract Bridge Club actually would have had its ninth anniversary of its first playing session on the 27th of May if it was not for Covid19 and we had actually been playing. So we celebrated our club birthday with our annual Christmas do. Everyone brought a plate and we shared. Results:

Alexandrina Results for 2 December 2020
Following the Friday the Thirteenth two week Lockdown we meet again for Bridge. This time four and a half tables. Scorer had finally got his own Five and a Half Tables Switching Rover movement into ScoreBridge and cannot wait to use it. Instead, Scorer takes two hands before he manages to find the Howell Eight Rounds of Three Boards movement.
Also, for the first time, our own Bridgemates.

Bridgemate Saga: back on Remembrance Day Treasurer had asked President to find out when Alexandrina Council intended to pay the Covid Reactivation Grant. It turned out the Council had paid the Grant on 18 October to a nonexistent bank account. Treasurer had looked at the
The Table Fees Saga
Before Covid table fees were simple: you paid your money and you played your cards. Treasurer collected the money and at the end of each month deposited the cash into our bank account.
Then Covid made us more cautious about touching things and Treasurer decided he would avoid handling money and get everyone to do his banking for him by paying their table fees at the end of each month using internet banking direct deposit. This meant Treasurer had to keep track of who played when and send individual emails (fortunately we all have email addresses) to everyone showing the amount due and our banking details.
Not everyone wanted do the direct deposit so some paid cash and received a receipt and some paid by cheque. And then the Treasurer deposited the cash and cheques into our bank account.
Meanwhile, as part of our plan to equip ourselves with Bridgemates, at our delayed AGM (held 26 August) we had agreed that would have a $5 levy on our table fee until we had sufficient funds to supply 10 Bridgemates with the levy commencing on 2 September. Thanks to a successful application for an Alexandrina Council Covid Reactivation Grant by Shirley H the levy applied only for 2 months and we reverted to our standard $5 on 2 November.
Given that the direct banking proposition was actually giving the Treasurer more to do, he decided that we would take the chance of dirty money and revert to our pre-Covid system. All he need now is all notes in the collection plate.
So, here's to plain sailing and a $50 venue rental. We might even get back to freebies and supplied afternoon tea one day.

Something, something, something Dark Side.
Scorer has still not worked out how to get the Five and a Half Table Switching Rover movement out of or into ScoreBridge so once again it is a Howell Eight Rounds of Three Boards which offends Scorer's sense of order.

Table Fees: we have now reverted to our Normal Table Fee of $5 paid at the table at start of play. The $10 Table Fee applying to September and October combined with the successful Alexandrina Council Grant application raised enough to buy 10 Bridgemates. We await payment of the Council's Covid Reactivation Grant to make the actual purchase.
